Depot as Destination/Venue

Richmond needs something.  Some motivation, energy, vivacity, revitalization, and a rekindling of the desire to share experiences with other people in the community.  There is so much potential in this community for greatness.  Let's tap into the roots of this place we live.  Rejuvinate the rich history!  We need to bring this flesh to LIFE!  Richmond needs a better way to involve itself in the life of other communities as well.  Let's use Richmond's location to our advantage.  Specifically, the Depot.

"Hire a Local Artist" Month

I belong to an art group called the Wayne County Artists Guild. We were thinking that a certain month (we were thinking March) be proclaimed as "Hire your local artists" month, and encourage businesses to use artwork from local artists on their billboards and other advertising media.

Create and Support an Arts and Culture Council

The Citizens' Advisory Committee for Comprehensive Planning has asked us to study the feasibility of a central organization that could support the arts and culture of our county. It could provide a powerful web site to identify artistic and cultural places and events, identify artists and others engaged in creative activity, and host a common events calendar. It could look for grant opportunities, seek grant support and help individuals and organizations to seek grants when they could use help doing the necessary research and proposal writing.
