Work to create a more positive attitude within the community

Create a "Take Pride in Richmond and Wayne County" program to improve our attitude towards our own community.  We currently project a negative vision to others outside our area.  I have heard it from business leaders from other cities (and right here in Richmond) all around us.  We need to have more than 20 people working to "sell" this area.  Lets get new groups organized,  Not use the same old approach by the same old group of community leaders who have lost faith in our ability to attract new business.

Set up a Local Exchange Trading System

Growing up in my hometown, Madison, WI, I participated in a local currency system, called Madison Hours. To sign-up, you submitted your "offers" (what services, skills, or items you had) and your "requests" (what services, skills, or items you needed) to Madison HOURS, and in return they started you off with three "Hours" (the name of the currency), which was worth roughly one hour of work.

Create a local BALLE network

The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies brings small business leaders together to help answer these questions: "How can my business use less energy and produce less waste? How can I help my customers understand that locally owned businesses are important to the strength of our community? What new business opportunities exist for our region in the emerging green economy?"

Create a Local Stock Market

Why do we send our savings accounts, retirement funds, pension funds, and other investments off to other communities? Let’s invest SOME of that in the success of the local community.

Local banks like First Bank Richmond already have some investment programs that guarantee you're investing your funds in the success of local businesses.  We could create other kinds of "stocks" that allow us to put our money where our mouths are.
