After School Activities

After School Activities
Some kids go to dance, music, sports and other activities after school. And some kids go home to get yelled at and smacked all evening, so lets take a few hours a day and make after school activities a choice for those kids.
Richmond elementary schools need an after school activities program for the schools in areas that are not doing very well in academics. This will help the kids learn to be leaders and keep them out of trouble. They need a program that will help with homework, so the child does not get behind in the class. This needs to be started in kindergarten. Once the child starts doing homework and sees the class work is easier that will lead to future success in high school and after. Don't wait until Junior and Senior high school to start working on making a successful child, start in the elementary schools. College students can offer their community service hours each week to help these schools with the program. Playing games and having fun after the homework is complete, will give them something to look forward to. A few minutes of reading will make a world of difference for the kids that don't get this at home. We need to help them more than anything to stop the drop out rate. Remember they  all are GODS children so they should be Richmond Community Schools first choice also. Stop the discrimination in Richmond Schools. Junior and Senior High School teachers and sports coaches are bad for that. If you want a winning team, play the poor child and not the popular child, it will make a difference. The poor child has better skills some of the time, and that is why they play. Not for the Letter to put on the jacket.

I agree with the basic

I agree with the basic premise here, but also have a couple of questions.  What similar programs (Boys and Girls clubs for example) are already available and could be used as you suggest?  How would this new program be different and why would it reach a different group of kids than those already involved in these programs?
