The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. On Friday night, you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then, participating teams get together to view each others` films, sometimes at a local theater.
Richmond could host an event like this that challenges local filmmakers - from students and hobbyists to professionals - to put together a film with a theme related to Richmond. The films could explore our history, our culture, our daily life, our future - lots of possibilities.
We already have a great regional high school film festival that happens here - Phantoscope - and so this would be a way to build on that interest and talent. It could be done in partnership with the Richmond Art Museum, Richmond Civic Theater, WCTV, Kerasotes, and others.
