Promote simple volunteer campaign

Submitted by BobbieGarner in Neighborhoods and Families

I just caught a wonderful episode of Cuffs/Let's Talk with Officer Stevens on WCTV with guests Mayor Hutton and Pat Heiney.   Part of their message was to encourage more individual community members to participate / volunteer.

I see many in the community actively volunteering and leading - but could we create a simple call to action to the rest of the community?  Many requests for volunteers that I see require a large time commitment or have a vague call to action (poor communication).

Perhaps promoting a community wide 30 MINUTES A WEEK campaign with simple volunteer, family activities nearly anyone could do such as:

  • Visit a nursing home
  • Visit the pet shelter and play with a puppy
  • Take a walk once a week in your neighborhood and collect trash
  • Check on an elderly neighbor
  • more.....

Take it a step further by creating a very simple time tracker - where if a family chooses they can log their time/activity and feel part of a greater group (similar to the Cope Environmental tracker for Hike Yourself Healthy).
