Pushing the use of free software and RSS for the pal-item website.

Submitted by pegwole

I think the pal-item website shouls use somehting like drupal or joomla to power their site, also the lack of a RSS feed is kind of annoying.  I'm not trying to be picky but they really seem to be behind in adapting to things that have basically become standard and commonplace on the web.  I think we should convince them to use a free and opensource content management system, along with that they will have the added benefit of having RSS feeds,  more control over their site, and a lot more flexabillity.   What do the rest of you think?

SHARE YOUR VOICE - RCS Parent Survey

Submitted by BobbieGarner in Education

I love the ideas on this site.  Now we can take it a step further.  RCS Administration has just launched a parent survey online to get direct feedback from parents and caretakers.  Share your voice and take the RCS Parent Survey.  Make sure to pass this on to any other parents you know.

Depot as Destination/Venue

Submitted by Lance Crow in Arts, Culture and Fun

Richmond needs something.  Some motivation, energy, vivacity, revitalization, and a rekindling of the desire to share experiences with other people in the community.  There is so much potential in this community for greatness.  Let's tap into the roots of this place we live.  Rejuvinate the rich history!  We need to bring this flesh to LIFE!  Richmond needs a better way to involve itself in the life of other communities as well.  Let's use Richmond's location to our advantage.  Specifically, the Depot.

Room-and-board-and-bandwidth incubator in the Starr District

Submitted by Michael Roberts in Business

Hi, all.  I bought a house here on N 11th back in May (cf. the houseblog) for the grand total of $8000, and since then I've been walking the dog past a lot of other heart-meltingly beautiful (but vacant) brick houses.  There's no economic reason to keep these houses around, unfortunately, so recently I've been trying to think of one before the city declares more of them unsafe; the idea that presents itself most obviously (to me) is to host entrepreneurs or other creative people.

Put the Conference Center back on the table

Submitted by marionr in Tourism and Marketing

Let's redo the whole idea about a Conference center in Richmond. The spot is perfect. I think it was almost there but it could not get over a few hurdles. Lets reexamine those hurdles....and move forward. Red Rover Red Rover (you know the game)...

It is going to take that kind of push to put Richmond back into the economic place it needs to be. Free Enterprise and profit have always been the impetus that has made many great things ikons in America. You know, Apple Pie, Chevrolet and so forth.

Expand Tom's New York Deli

Submitted by marionr in Arts, Culture and Fun

Lets get behind Tom and help him complete his dream of expanding his deli to include a place for Jazz music in the next building to his. Look at the crowds of interested people he is already getting. This could go big and would seem to tie into those interested in the Jazz museum center for the area.

Promote Fountain City and Underground Railroad

Submitted by marionr in Historic Preservation

Imagine Levi Coffin days to include something of a re-enactment scene where every one in the town dressed up like they do in Williamsburg Va., to include something that ties into West Elkton OH Friends meeting and the Freedom Center in Cincinnati. Big signs on I-70 to draw them to Uncle Tom's Cabin.... We have a gold mine that we are sitting on. How many of you have pulled off the interstate to see less while on vacation?

Promote the Wright Brothers` History in Richmond

Submitted by marionr in Historic Preservation

Improve our image and tie it into our powerful past by doing something with the house the Wright Brothers used to live in on somewhere like 15th street. Talk up better the fact that he attended Richmond Community Schools and would have graduated RHS had they not dropped out of school and moved to Dayton.

Support Richmond All America City Participants

Submitted by marionr in Arts, Culture and Fun

The All America City website shows that the winners of this award have demonstrated that they can tackle community problems in a good way thus they win the award. Lets get those students on board helping put together a plan developed by the say age less than 25 group and have them develop a plan for the Richmond they want to inherit. Then let them put that same Florida event on at Civic Hall for all the community to see, not just those that work at RHS.

I'd even like to see that presentation on YouTube.

Glen Miller Lake boardwalk and fountain

Submitted by marionr in Arts, Culture and Fun

Imagine a beautiful water fall right in the middle of the Glen Miller Lake and a board walk with seating arrangments around the water or part of the water. People could meet up after work or on a hot summer day and buy a lemonaid and sit there and watch the beauty with a friend and sip on lemonaid.
