Depot as Destination/Venue

Richmond needs something.  Some motivation, energy, vivacity, revitalization, and a rekindling of the desire to share experiences with other people in the community.  There is so much potential in this community for greatness.  Let's tap into the roots of this place we live.  Rejuvinate the rich history!  We need to bring this flesh to LIFE!  Richmond needs a better way to involve itself in the life of other communities as well.  Let's use Richmond's location to our advantage.  Specifically, the Depot.

Replace downtown parking enforcement with good-will ambassadors

Okay, the idea title is a little cheesy, but bear with me.  The current parking enforcement situation in downtown Richmond is hurting, not helping the community.  The cost of paying for the enforcement officer to give tickets on top of the negative perception and unwelcoming spirit that it creates is not worth whatever minor infractions it might be preventing or ancillary revenue it might be generating.

Have more potluck meals

Potlucks are great ways to get to know your neighbors, co-workers, and others around you while sharing good food.  They can usually be done on short notice, and tend to provide more than enough food for everyone who comes, even if a few folks don't have time to prepare dishes.

Organizing a potluck can be as easy as picking a time and place, but you can also play around with the idea by having themes, trying to make dishes from local ingredients, etc.
